Saguaro Cactus on the Road to Bagdad
One drive we like to take is down towards a little town called Bagdad.  We usually never make it to the town as there's really nothing much there to photograph. (Sorry Bagdad folks, but the drive is more impressive than the destination.) (Okay, we'll show you what we mean sometime in the future......when we get around to it...... hehe) However, the road TO Bagdad is full of interesting visuals and there's a picturesque river that's just right for camping next to.  Not too many people have discovered this secluded yet accessible area so we really like our time down there.

Rocks and Cactus One of the things we like best about traveling down the road to Bagdad  is the diversity of terrain and vegetation.  No matter where you look there are pictures for the taking.

Cactus in Bloom We can usually find something in bloom almost every week from February to May, depending on the elevation.  I think we go from 5-6000 ft. to 2-3000 ft by traveling from Prescott to the Santa Maria River area.

Santa Maria River Although this doesn't look like a river compared to what we remember back home, it is one!  About the only time there's substantial water in the river is during the "monsoon" season.

Special Note: And there's more pictures to share!  Unfortunately, we have little time this week to put into finding our best shots! Our "best trips to Bagdad" pictures are somewhere in our files and we'll post them in the near future on the Special Pix Page.  We'll post a message when we do on the Guestbook and also make some references to the fact on the main page.. We're going on a short Spring Break holiday around the middle of March, so we'll be away from a regular posting by a few days.  I use the term regular rather loosely....... Thanks for stopping by!
